Dr. Boyuan Guan<\/strong> is the Lead Digital\/GIS System Developer at the Florida International University (FIU) GIS Center and Library, where he has served since 2011. He specializes in building AI-driven digital infrastructure that bridges geospatial systems, research data platforms, and intelligent automation.<\/p>\n

With over a decade of leadership in institutional technology development, Dr. Guan has designed and engineered more than 15 large-scale web applications supporting organizations such as FIU, SOUTHCOM, FDOT, Miami-Dade MPO, and USDA<\/strong>. His early work focused on transportation safety systems, GIS integration, and decision-support platforms.<\/p>\n

In recent years, his research and development focus has evolved toward the future of AI-enabled research ecosystems, with an emphasis on:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Agentic AI and Autonomous Research Assistants<\/strong> \u2013 creating AI frameworks that can search, analyze, and reason over institutional knowledge to support scholars and research workflows.<\/li>\n
  • Smart Data Pipelines and FAIR Infrastructure<\/strong> \u2013 integrating Dataverse, high-performance computing (HPC), and Ceph-based storage to support large-scale scientific data stewardship.<\/li>\n
  • Embeddings and Vector Databases<\/strong> \u2013 architecting semantic search and knowledge retrieval systems for digital libraries and research discovery.<\/li>\n
  • Optimization of AI\/ML Systems<\/strong> \u2013 improving model efficiency, data inference quality, and real-time AI integration within web-based institutional platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Dr. Guan earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science<\/strong> from FIU\u2019s Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Science (2022), where his thesis focused on recommender systems, cloud optimization, and domain-specific AI. He also holds a Master\u2019s in Transportation Engineering<\/strong> (FIU, 2019), during which he served as an in-house engineer for FDOT District Six.<\/p>\n

    He began his career after completing a B.S. in Software Engineering<\/strong> at Beihang University (China), followed by work as a core engineer at NetTOP (163.com)<\/strong> and later as a system architect for emergency response platforms in Beijing.<\/p>\n
