Job Summary
The FIU GIS Center is seeking Web Application Developer I – Academic Data Portals to support the development and maintenance of our academic data portal projects. The successful candidate will assist in the implementation, configuration, and secondary development of open-source systems. This role involves supporting the design and development of data pipelines for system integration, and working closely with senior software engineers to contribute to the implementation of AI/ML components within the integrated system.
- Assists in the deployment, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of open-source systems that are integral to the academic data portal.
- Collaborates in the design and development of data pipelines, aiding in the integration of multiple systems to ensure efficient data flow and system interoperability.
- Works with senior software engineers to support the integration of AI and machine learning components into the system, contributing to enhanced data processing and analytical functionalities.
- Utilizes scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) and programming languages such as C/C#/Java to assist in customizing and extending system functionalities.
- Provides input and support in the development of system architectures that meet the academic and operational needs of the FIU GIS Center.
- Supports data analysis efforts to inform system development and optimize performance.
- Applies knowledge of ESRI software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Portal, to assist in enhancing system capabilities.
- Supports the use of APIs for system integrations and data exchanges between platforms.
- Contributes to the thorough documentation of system specifications, program code, configurations, procedures, and maintenance processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Studies, or other technical discipline and one (1) year of related experience; OR five (5) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge or training in open-source systems implementation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with server-side coding, debugging, and performance testing.
